Laura James

Hello,
My name is Laura James. I am a Level 7 qualified Specialist Teacher and Assessor
of Dyslexia (for young people up to age 18), with an Assessment Practicing
Certificate (APC) and membership of the British Dyslexia Association. I am also a
primary school teacher with Qualified Teacher Status gained over twelve years ago.
For the last five years, I have worked predominantly as a SENCO in a large primary
school in Kent and have the Level 7 National Award for SEN Coordination. In
teaching and in my SENCO work, I have always been drawn to helping young
people that struggle to read and write, and can see the immense benefits to a young
person when they know there is a ‘reason’ for those struggles and when help and
support is tailored to them. I offer face to face assessments which determine
strengths, areas of need and recommendations for school, parents and the young
person, whatever the diagnostic outcome.
I have three gorgeous children, one of which has severe and complex special needs
and one with a specific learning difficulty. I understand that learning about your
child’s needs is something of a ‘journey’ and the process can feel overwhelming (for
the parent and young person!). I try to offer a professional, friendly and
compassionate service with this firmly in mind.
Please email me on weald.dyslexia@gmail.com or call me, 07709 339500, if you
would like to arrange an assessment.
I am based in West Kent.
